On March 20, 2026, Northwest Washington online news organization Salish Current published “VSED awareness continues for those unable to use state’s Death with Dignity Act,” featuring interviews with VRNW co-founder Nancy Simmers and current board member Kate Christie. According to the article’s subtitle, “A legal end-of-life process, Voluntary Stopping of Eating and Drinking, is gaining traction in part because of local authors sharing experiences and information.” Writer Matt Benoit asked both Christie and Simmers about the books they’ve written; he also wrote at length about the process of VSED and about Christie’s parents’ decisions to hasten their deaths in the face of dementia.
As the article notes, Christie’s The VSED Handbook continues to be available on Barnes & Noble and by special order from other bookstores, while Simmers is in the process of republishing her book, VSED Support: What Friends and Family Need to Know.
