VRNW board member Kate Christie recently offered an introduction to VSED via Zoom to a residential facility in California. The presentation focused on the basics of voluntarily stopping eating and drinking, including the following topics:
- What is VSED?
- Who typically chooses VSED?
- How does one plan for VSED?
- What does the process look like?
- Family story
In addition to exploring clinical information about VSED, Christie explained how both of her parents used VSED to hasten their deaths and avoid the late stages of terminal dementia, with a particular focus on her mother Jane’s journey with Alzheimer’s. Christie’s book, The VSED Handbook, offers additional information both on VSED and on her family’s story.
